The Maine State Lottery
The Maine State Lottery was created in 1974 by a state-wide referendum of local voters. In 2004 the state signed up for the multi-jurisdictional Powerball game, while it joined the Mega Millions draw in May 2010. In between times, in 2009, it also became part of the Hot Lotto game. Current games offered include Tri State Megabucks Plus, Lucky for Life, Tri-State Pick 3 and Tri-State Pick 4, as well as a range of instant lottery tickets.
Millions of dollars in prize money are paid out to players every year, while the programs and services supported by the states General Fund receive over $50m annually from the Lottery. Local businesses are also given commissions and bonuses for selling lottery products.
