The Georgia State Lottery
The Georgia Lottery was created in November 1992 in an attempt to increase education funding, with the Georgia Lottery Corporation (GLC) set up to operate the draw. Tickets were first sold in June 1993, with 52 million purchased by players in the opening week. Lottery tickets are sold at over 8,200 authorized retailer locations in Georgia. The GLC has now generated more than $14bn for state education.
On average the Georgia Lottery offers 40-45 instant ticket games at any given time, as well as the CASH 3, CASH 4, Georgia FIVE, Decades of Dollars, Win for Life, Fantasy 5, Mega Millions, Powerball and KENO! games.
The record sales week for the GLC came in March 2012 when revenues of over $115m were generated. The biggest GLC payout is the $275m given to Mega Millions jackpot winner Robert Harris of Portal on 5 February 2008.
The largest single-day payout for the CASH 3 game was 2 January 2000, when the numbers 777 saw players win more than $27.4m.
