The Colorado State Lottery
The Colorado Lottery made its debut in 1983 offering only a single scratch game, with its first draw taking place on 23 April of the same year. The present day Lottery offers Lotto, Cash 5 and Pick 3 games alongside the multi-state Powerball and Mega Millions draws.
The Cash 5 game offers a daily top prize of $20,000, while scratch game payouts range from $1 to $1m. Player winnings for the fiscal year 2012 reached $347.5m, meaning Colorado has paid out over $4.9bn since its creation over 20 years ago.
Colorado Lottery tickets are sold by a network of over 3,000 retailers across the state who are paid a commission on every sale they make. Lottery profits are distributed to designated organizations who issue funds to improve and support projects relating to parks, recreation, open space, conservation education and wildlife.
