There are several lottery games formats in the state of Arizona including two draws with huge cash prize pools - The Mega Millions ($70 million) and Powerball ($60 million). The Pick, Pick 3 Fantasy 5 2By2 and Weekly Winnings make up the other draws.

The Arizona Lottery is run by the state government which in turn is a member of the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL). The mission statement of the Arizona Lottery highlights that its objective is to support Arizona programs for the public by maximising revenue in a responsible manner.

In 1980 Arizona became the first State west of the Mississippi to sanction a lottery when it passed a state-wide initiative by a slim rating. Since then legislation has extended the lottery in the state until 2035. Four public programs receive funding from the lottery.

The State requires lottery players to be over the age of 21, since the law was amended from 18 in 2003. There is also a unique element to the Arizona Lottery as residents are able to vote on whether its games should continue. For example in 2002 Proposition 301 was supported by a majority, meaning the lottery was permitted to operate until June 2012, and pay on winning tickets through to December 31.
